Anthem Properties, one of BC and Alberta’s leading residential and commercial developers literally transformed a timeless Vancouver landmark into one of the city’s most recognizable and distinctive condo residences in 2006. QUBE, the name says it all.
Originally this BC Hydro office tower, later bought out by Duke Energy was erected in 1969, inspired by the Cold War’s considerations to space age, and physically unique! It’s in the shape of a 3-D cube that hangs from supporting cables, with a supporting column that runs straight through the middle. The goal was to make the tower earthquake proof. Try explaining that to interested buyers… it was a great lesson in creative construction and design, focused mainly on the suspension-like structure, and involved a big revamp in clever window systems. Despite the fact that the building’s original office style supported no balconies, investors understood the message that they would be buying into a famous Vancouver classic, situated in the most promising rental markets in Vancouver.
Qube offered the same architectural ingenuity when Anthem Properties gutted and re-built the 15-level concrete structure for residential sale.
